The Road to Enucleation: Helping Owners See the Light

Sometimes the toughest part of the job is helping owners cope with changes to their pets' health.  When hearing words like "removal of the eye" it can be pretty upsetting for some.  This lecture is designed to help the learner understand indications for enucleation and provide helpful tips and resources for owners who are faced with this decision. Anatomy, diseases, and procedures will also be discussed.

 Ear Trek: Right Ear, Left Ear, Final "Front-ear"

At the end of this lecture, you will be able to better understand those stinky ears that come into your clinic on a regular basis.  Take the "Ear" out of "Fear" when dealing with these patients on their Ear Trek journey.  Anatomy, diseases, and procedures will also be discussed.

Speaker Bios

Erin Lee, DVM - Dr. Lee received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine Degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a small animal and exotics internship in Tucson, AZ, before moving to Las Vegas, NV, to start her Emergency and Critical Care Residency. In 2022 she joined CCVS for the rest of her residency program. Dr. Lee has lived throughout the US, including Maine once upon a time. Her professional interests include envenomations, trauma, and advancements in feline and exotic critical care. When she is off she enjoys reading, searching for sea glass, and spending time with her cats; Azura, Nala, and Stellaluna.

Annmarie Morawiak, BS, M.Ed., CVT - Annmarie earned her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology at Mount Ida College and has experience working in emergency and critical care, ophthalmology, dermatology, and anesthesia. She was given an opportunity to work as a laboratory assistant at Mount Ida College one day per week in 2016 for several semesters.  In 2017, Annmarie made the difficult decision to leave a full-time job that she loved to pursue her love for education.  At the same time, she was accepted to Pennsylvania State University – World Campus, Lifelong Learning & Adult Education program and earned her Master of Education in the Spring of 2020 during a living-room virtual commencement. Annmarie is currently a Lecturer and faculty member of the Veterinary Technology program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst – Mount Ida Campus teaching a wide range of topics including, anesthesia & surgery, basic & advanced nursing skills, practice management, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, and community medicine.  Annmarie is also highly involved in the veterinary technology community.  She is the current President of the Massachusetts Veterinary Technician Association (MVTA), and she is the current District One Representative for the National Association of Veterinary Technicians of America (NAVTA). Annmarie is also on many committees including the Committee of Veterinary Technicians Specialists (CVTS) with NAVTA, and the VASCI Climate Advisory Committee at UMass Amherst. Annmarie is Fear Free Certified and a RECOVER Certified BLS and ALS Rescuer.
