Guidelines to Document Continuing Education Requirements
To renew registration or certification, a veterinary technician must document earning twelve (12) unused continuing
education units within the one year prior to the current certification/registration expiration date with a maximum of only
6 CEU carried over from a previous year. Approval of continuing education units is contingent on acceptance by the
JCVTC. Seminars offered by formal professional organizations such as TUSVM, AMAH, AAHA, AVMA, state, and
specialty colleges, will be recognized for continuing education.
Continuing Education Time Requirements
* Fifty consecutive clock minutes are equivalent to one contact hour
* One continuing education unit (CEU) equals one contact hour
* One semester hour equals one continuing education unit
* One clinical hour (100 minutes of participatory or laboratory experience) in a structured program of study, is the
equivalent of one contact hour
